Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG set in the mysterious and supernatural side of the Marvel universe. As the Hunter, a brand-new, fully customizable hero designed in collaboration with Marvel, players learn to both fight and live alongside iconic heroes such as Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and more. A thrilling new spin on turn-based tactics provides a dynamic, fast-paced, cinematic battle experience, while interacting with your teammates in the Abbey base between combat missions allows players to hang out and develop personal relationships with their fellow Super Heroes.

In the Lead Design role on this project, I led the development of multiple systems, advised and oversaw a team of designers, and championed the design vision from paper prototypes through final bug fixing and polish. I also performed many Gameplay Engineer and UI Engineer responsibilities from implementing gameplay features to prototyping screens.

Contributions:

  • Hero ability designs and iterations, including upgrades and mods. I particularly focused on card text and keywords for consistent presentation, clarity, and simplicity across all heroes.

    • Initial designs for Doctor Strange, Hulk, and Spider-Man

  • Hero progression systems, including primary and secondary stats, leveling, XP, and Champion Levels

  • Difficulty levels and enemy stats, including overall game balance

  • Mission rewards and loot systems

  • Abbey gameplay systems, including Ability Upgrades, Research, Hero Ops, and more
